Trigger Warning: emotional abuse/toxic/abusive relationship Originally written as a One Direction fanfic on Wattpad, "After" is a good book if you're looking to read about a portrayal of an emotionally abusive and toxic relationship without the accountability, label, or resources. Hardin and Tessa's back-and-forth romance fulfills the trope of innocent-good-girl meets tortured-bad-boy and it seems that Hardin's sex appeal and Tessa's lack of truly romantic relationships and sexual experiences are really the only thing bringing them back together for most of the book. Hardin can be controlling, often insults Tessa, grabs her a few times, breaks things throughout most of the series when he gets angry, and uses sex to manipulate her on at least one occasion. There is also a major power imbalance due to the connections Hardin has at their school. If you're looking for a cute (and healthy!) college romance, look somewhere else. Otherwise, keep in mind that most of "Hessa's" relationship in this book can be defined by its red flags and has been accused of romanticizing toxic/abusive behavior. It is also written for a mature audience and features multiple sex/sexual scenes, so don't pick it up if that's not your thing. #RequiredReading
This book is for anyone that loves a good life changing young love story. It's beautiful and heart breaking.
I was intrigued by the constant conflict. It had me on the edge of my seat. Will she keep putting up with it or will she leave? Wow. Definitely worth a read. #SummerReading
It's like a college semi version of 50 shades of Grey meets Cruel Intentions meets She's All That! Absolutely love this book, definitely re-readable. Drama, love, heart break, and betrayal. 100 times better then Movie, which I saw first before reading, but still love the movie as well.
I absolutely LOVE Anna Todd's After series. I read the series a few years ago and have been rereading the books now that they are being made into movies. I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in fiction, romance, angst, and who can relate to "the heart wants what it wants." #SummerReading
