Overview

Rand's debut published work is a hard one to swallow. At least it was when it was originally published, it is much easier to digest these days. This Kane Classics Edition of the text revises the language of the original to bring it up to 2022 standards and also provides a brand new Forward. Mathew Kane mixes HST-style Gonzo writing with an academic essay flair while examining Rand's work, yet still treating the text with reverence. Kane's ultimate achievement, though, is bringing the work into context with a post-pandemic society. The second dark age of man could be upon us, but Rand and Kane remind us that our children's children will break free of tyranny should our generation fall to the whims of psychotic despots.

    I. Love. This. Book. Her philosophy aside, Ayn Rand has the most beautiful way with words. The way she can paint a picture of such a dark and bleak world but do so in such an enthralling way is remarkable. I find she has this way of putting into words that which we've all experienced but perhaps been unable to express-- a very talented writer. This book runs the full gamut of human emotion. If you like dystopian fantasy and striking descriptions, then this is the book for you! As an additional bonus, the story is only 100 pages or so and thus is easily read. It's definitely one of my favorites and I happily encourage everyone to see for themselves why this is the case :).
