Overview

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Man Called Ove and "writer of astonishing depth" (The Washington Times) comes a hilarious, clever, and heartfelt novel about eight neurotic strangers during an open house who find they have more in common than they ever imagined.

Viewing an apartment normally doesn't turn into a life-or-death situation, but this particular open house soon becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and immediately takes everyone in the apartment hostage. As the pressure mounts, the eight strangers begin slowly opening up to one another and reveal long-hidden and shocking truths.

Featuring Fredrik Backman's "pitch-perfect dialogue and an unparalleled understanding of human nature" (Shelf Awareness), Anxious People is a whimsical and unforgettable exploration of the truths we hide within ourselves.

  • We save those we can. We do our best

    Katherine M. - 1 year 5 months ago

This is a story about a bank robbery, an apartment viewing, and a hostage drama. But even more it's about idiots. But perhaps not only that. Partly told through witness depositions and a series of flashbacks. This tale unfolds as the reader becomes acquainted with each hostage and learns who they are, and what brought each of them to this apartment viewing. This story is filled with laughter, lessons of the heart, and redemption. A story of how small actions have big consequences. Fredrik Backman gives us an introspective, tender, and an emotional look into what causes people to be the way they are. Backman reminds us that all we can do is our best, and at the end of the day the importance of self forgiveness.
