Overview

The first novel in #1 New York Times bestselling author Jan Karon's beloved series set in America's favorite small town: Mitford.

It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable. Yet, Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's sixty years old. Suddenly, Father Tim gets more than he bargained for. And readers get a rich comedy about ordinary people and their ordinary lives.

  • I love Mitford

    Elizabeth A. - 4 years 1 month ago

I read it before and have the whole series, but have misplaced this one and wanted it again as I loan out the series and feel the first book is the most important to introduce everyone. I love the whole series and recommend it often for fun reading.

  • Abridged recordings are a cheat.

    Sylvia M. - 4 years 9 months ago

It's on me for not reading the description carefully but this is an abridged book - less than half of the written word is on this recording, so that was extremely disappointing. I finally was able to find the book in print so now I have the whole story. Originally I was going to send this to a 2nd hand store but just tossed it instead because abridged recordings are a cheat.

  • Easy read for those looking for hope and positive message

    SRI M. - 5 years 7 months ago

In these troublesome times, a return to basics of neighbourly, community first values. Focus on self determination, responsibility. A breath of fresh air in stale world.

  • Loveable series about lifelike people

    Bailey S. - 5 years 9 months ago

First book in the Mitford Series. I love this series! So full of life! Heart-warming stories of loveable characters that feel so real. The comedy, struggles, and joy of life. Will make you laugh as well as bring you to tears. I recommend this book and whole series to anyone who just likes a good story. #SummerReading
