Rowell does an exquisite job of drawing you into Attachments. She writes the characters in a way that makes you feel as though you know them personally. Attachments is an engaging love story; an IT tech falls in love with a woman by reading the emails she writes to her best friend. The fact that he falls in love with her personality, but she's oblivious to this, yet finds him attractive anyway, makes it fun to read. The way each character adapts, who they are, and what they want before finding love is intriguing. The root to how this love story forms may seem a little odd, but the way it ends makes it the complete opposite. This is by far one of the most well written love stories I have ever read.
HPB Staff ReviewI never was one for drama/book with emails and texts, but this book had me reading until 2 in the morning. It was definitely a page turner!
It's impossible not to fall completely in love with this book. A young man falls in love with a co-worker entirely through reading her emails. Sounds sketchy? It's actually his job to read flagged emails. How can he possibly meet her without coming across as a creepy stalker? Rainbow Rowell keeps you guessing and doesn't resort to an easy solution to his dilemma. It's always a pleasure to read her books.
HPB Staff ReviewOne of the things I appreciate about Rainbow Rowell is she's willing to bring topics like mental illness (Fangirl) and miscarriage and women not sure if they even want to have kids to books that are essentially romance novels. It creates a certain depth to a genre that revels in the shallows.
Ever wonder about the 3rd shift IT guy who monitors everyone's work email? No, neither did I. However, Rainbow Rowell's Attachment follows Lincoln O'Neill whose job is exactly that. However, when he comes across the email exchanges between Beth and Jennifer, he can't help but be entertained and captivated by their lives, so much so he's falling in love with Beth through her emails! This book was such a fun, weird romance where almost all the characterization of Beth is done through her emails. It isn't until the end when Boy FINALLY meets girl. It was amusing to see how creepy Lincoln feels being that guy peering into the lives of Beth and Jennifer until his life becomes intertwined with theirs. Definitely a quick, fun read. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun off-beat romance. Definitely a pick up from me that I would most likely forward to my entire contact list.
