  • A great collection featuring some of Lovecraft's signature stories.

    Matthew R. - 8 years 1 month ago

This is a collection of some of Lovecraft's most loved short stories. It offers an excellent introduction into the revolutionary weird fiction of "The Old Gentleman from Providence". This volume features a number of short stories that have influenced writers, movie directors, and popular culture for much of the last century. The ten stories contained within these red and black covers will provide someone new to Lovecraft's world a grand tour of its most notable landmarks, but they can also be used to pull seasoned fan back into the terrifying shadows of Arkham, Innsmouth, and beyond. The collection contains the following cornerstones of Lovecraft's world of supernatural horror: The Dunwich Horror, The Shadow over Innsmouth, The Call of Cthulhu, and, my personal favorite, At the Mountains of Madness. The stories, as well as the six others contained within this volume, present the reader with unspeakable horrors lurking in the darkness, the corruptions of scientific research run rampant, and a view of the cosmos that places Man in an uncomfortable minor position. Writers such as Stephen King, Guillermo del Toro, and Neil Gaiman have all referenced H.P. Lovecraft as one of the great influences on their creative careers. This simple collection offers readers a chance to explore what so many people have been terrified by and grown to love. I thoroughly recommend the Best of H.P. Lovecraft collection from Prion to anyone who wishes to embrace the oldest and strongest emotion know to mankindfear.
