The story of Tony Chu, an FDA agent who can see the history of any food he eats, proves that In a world where chicken is illegal, the sky occasionally lights up with fiery alien messages, and your partner gets turned into a cyborg, the worst part of your day can still be dealing with your awful boss. I love the humor in this book, as well as the gross-out moments, and the artwork is wild and frenetic.
Wow. Chew is a little nauseating but entirely impossible to put down. The story revolves around Tony Chu, a detective who has a strange ability; he can see the complete history of anything he eats. This means if he eats fruit, he can see which pesticides were used, where it was grown, who picked it, etc. And if he eats meat? That's where his ability becomes a bit of a burden. The overarching storyline of Chew is something that's hard to explain, but incredible to read. Over the course of the comics, Tony meets another character with food-related abilities, some of which can be dangerous. Part detective story, part tongue-in-cheek hilarity, Chew is a great comic for those who enjoy something a little more indie. Honestly, it's unlike anything I've read before. Just don't read it while you're eating.
