"Prince Charming among the cyborgs." --The Wall Street Journal on the Lunar Chronicles
Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together they're plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.
Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker; unfortunately, she's just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.
When a daring rescue goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing stop her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only ones who can.
Find out what happens in another richly imagined adventure in Marissa Meyer's world of fairytale (with characters based off of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel), science fiction, and intergalatic intruigue.

Fairytales. They've been told and retold and twisted over the years, until making a familiar tale into something brand-new is quite a challenge. But that's exactly what Marissa Meyer has done with her science fiction Lunar Chronicles. So far, she's reimagined Cinderella as a cyborg with a mysterious past and Red Riding Hood as a spirited freedom fighter who saves a tortured young man - Wolf - from a life of slavery to a lunar queen bent on controlling the world. And now, in Cress, Meyer tackles the story of Rapunzel. Cress - inspired by watercress, a substitution for the cabbages Rapunzel was named for - has spent her life as a captive on a satellite orbiting earth, hacking Earthen computers for the Lunar queen. Helping Cinder and her crew, she finally has an opportunity to escape. When the rescue attempt goes sour, she ends up wandering the desert with a blinded Captain Thorne, one of the two most-wanted fugitives in the world. They don't stay anonymous for long, and soon the timid Cress has to lose her classic locks and learn to fight for Earth. Cress is packed with adventure and romance - just like any good fairytale.
HPB Staff ReviewThis is the third book in The Lunar Chronicle series by M. Meyer. It is a Science fiction/fantasy retelling of the fairy tale Rapunzel. Set in the future poor Cress is forced into solitude in a satellite orbiting earth and is forced into working for the evil Queen Levana. Will poor Cress ever escape? I am a big fan of this series and this book was a very good addition to the series. It is aimed at a younger audience (teens) but is written well enough that I believe it is relatable to an older crowd (like me). I love that it follows the original fairy tale in its own quirky way. It has a little romance, adventure and plenty of action. You will not want to put it down.
HPB Staff ReviewA computer genius, the Lunar shell Cress has been trapped, alone in a satellite orbiting the Earth since she was a child. Her job is to monitor all Earthen communications for the Lunar queen, that is until she is rescued from her prison by Cinder and the handsome "Captain" Carswell Thorne. Unfortunately, the rescue mission doesn't go as planned, leaving Cress and Thorne spiraling towards earth in a damaged satellite, Scarlet taken prisoner and Cinder and her ragtag group of allies stuck in space without a trustworthy pilot. Now, all Cinder has to do is find Cress and Thorne, figure out a plan to rescue Scarletoh, and stop a royal wedding. The Lunar Chronicles gets better with every book.
