Overview

When a savage creature known only as the Adversary conquered the fabled lands of legends and fairy tales, all of the infamous inhabitants of folklore were forced into exile. Disguised among the "mundys," their name for normal citizens of modern-day New York, these magical characters created their own secret society that they call Fabletown. From their exclusive luxury apartment buildings on Manhattan's Upper West Side, these creatures of legend must fight for their survival in the new world.

Fables is the winner of 14 Eisner Awards and is one of the most enduring Vertigo titles ever. Here, in this new, 10th anniversary edition, is a newly colored 8-page story from the Fables prose work Peter & Max A Fables Novel, as well as a beautiful new cover from series artist Mark Buckingham.

  • A Graphic Novel of Old Legends & Tales in the Modern Age

    Kelcie P. - 5 years 9 months ago

Fables is a series of graphic novels put out by Vertigo. They follow the lives and times of fairytale characters in our modern world in a unique and engaging way. For example, the story opens with Snow White, no longer the meek and tragic sleeping heroine we know, as the no-nonsense de-facto leader of "Fabletown" and long divorced from Prince Charming. Another major player over the course of the story is the Big Bad Wolf. This former villain has become the major investigator of trouble and mystery in Fabletown and now goes by Bigby Wolf (Big B. Wolf, get it?) Classic character such as Beauty and the Beast, Rose Red, the Three Little Pigs, and Jack all appear in this character-driven story. Many of conflicts are fairly easily resolved (in true fairytale fashion) but it's the characters and dialog that really drive the story and keep you reading for more. Fables is a great series for anyone looking for a new graphic novel with beautiful art, engaging characters, and a storyline that isn't overly complex, heavy, or gritty. Definitely try to give this one a shot and maybe you'll get your happily ever after.

  • See the dark side of your childhood fairy-tale characters!

    Stephanie G. - 5 years 9 months ago

I found this series after playing "The Wolf Among Us", which takes place using the universe Bill Willingham created. The world houses characters from well-known fairy tales; however, this series is anything but kid friendly. Several subjects in the book are geared towards an adult audience. If you want to see the darker side of your childhood characters who lost their home, band together just to survive, and fight in attempts to reclaim their home...then this book is for you! #SummerReading
