" Vonnegut] at his wildest best."--The New York Times Book Review
Eliot Rosewater--drunk, volunteer fireman, and President of the fabulously rich Rosewater Foundation--is about to attempt a noble experiment with human nature . . . with a little help from writer Kilgore Trout. God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater is Kurt Vonnegut's funniest satire, an etched-in-acid portrayal of the greed, hypocrisy, and follies of the flesh we are all heir to. "A brilliantly funny satire on almost everything."--Conrad Aiken " Vonnegut was] our finest black humorist. . . . We laugh in self-defense."--The Atlantic Monthly0
God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater is a novel written by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., published in 1965. It is a story of a drunk volunteer firefighter, Eliot Rosewater, that is a millionaire who develops a social conscience, abandons everything that he knows in New York, and establishes a foundation to help the less fortunate; all at the same time, a lawyer is trying to prove him insane and steal his money. This book is sheer genius. I couldn't put it down. I have gone through multiple copies of this book, and even after being worn out from many re-readings, notes and taped pages, I still have them. This is a must read for everybody! And if you have never read Vonnegut and this is your first experience, then, Welcome, Come in, Sit Down, Grab a Drink, and Enjoy! You have truly found a treasure of a read!
HPB Staff ReviewIf you know Kurt Vonnegut like I do, then you know he cannot disappoint. This is yet another book in his repertoire that I couldn't put down and have read numerous times. I recommend this book to anyone who considers themselves neurodivergent and outside the norms of society, as well as every other book by this gift to humankind of an author.
