  • History as told by those who lived it;

    James L. - 2 years 9 months ago

    Hard Times is oral historian and radio host Studs Terkel's collection of interviews about the Great Depression. It's a fascinating look at history by those who lived it. Interviews range from uplifting to melancholy, sometimes downright depressing. We are, at time of writing, fifteen years away from the centennial anniversary of the Great Depression. As a country we have survived calamity after calamity, generally with the outlook that the sky is falling. In the Great Depression, the sky actually did fall; these women and men weathered the storm. It was a different world, one unimaginable, and "Hard Times" is an intimate and comprehensive look at the experience of living it. Highly recommended.
