Overview

For twelve long years, the dread fortress of Azkaban held an infamous prisoner named Sirius Black. Convicted of killing thirteen people with a single curse, he was said to be the heir apparent to the Dark Lord, Voldemort.

Now he has escaped, leaving only two clues as to where he might be headed: Harry Potter's defeat of You-Know-Who was Black's downfall as well. And the Azkaban guards heard Black muttering in his sleep, "He's at Hogwarts . . . he's at Hogwarts."

Harry Potter isn't safe, not even within the walls of his magical school, surrounded by his friends. Because on top of it all, there may well be a traitor in their midst.

  • Enjoy the characters, adventure, wonders. Then wonder about unquestioning belief, tolerance vs. hate, biases morphing into bigotry.

Read for fun. Read-aloud for sharing. Share thoughts with each other about caring for friends, family, and one's self. Can you discuss comparing your feelings and reactions to Harry's and his friends's experiences? How would you want to deal with having to abandon beliefs held since childhood in the face to new information - or would you reject facts, refuse to even consider that you and your respected others could be wrong? How would you discuss what would you unthinkingly accept or ignore? when is it appropriate - or necessary - to think about your beliefs, how they affect your behavior, how they color your view of others? Enjoy the reading, then use the content. #BannedBook
