  • Kids and nature team up in a quirky mystery.

    Rebecca S. - 3 years 10 months ago

Roy, the new kid at Trace Middle School, is focused on missing the wilderness of his old home in Montana, but a new adventure with some unlikely friends helps him to see the natural wonders of his new home in Florida. Roy and his friends take on Mother Paula's All American Pancake House in a struggle to save the miniature burrowing owls living at the construction site. It can be difficult for kids to win in a grown up world, but creativity and determination make all the difference in this story. A hero with a good heart, an environmental crusader, a bully whose stupidity is his own downfall, and one crazy turn of events after another are the hallmarks I've come to love and expect in a Carl Hiaasen mystery. I was not disappointed, and was also pleasantly surprised how easily his storytelling translated into the young adult world.

This is book has you immediately interested in the characters in the first scene. It is a story that shows each person can make a difference. A must read for any upper elementary aged child. #SpringPicks
