Overview

A #1 New York Times bestseller

Sarah J. Maas's bestselling Crescent City series begins with House of Earth and Blood, which follows the story of half-Fae and half-human Bryce Quinlan as she seeks revenge in a contemporary fantasy world of magic, danger, and searing romance.

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life-working hard all day and partying all night-until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She'll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose-to assassinate his boss's enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he's offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City's underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion-one that could set them both free, if they'd only let it.

With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom-and the power of love.

Sarah J. Maas did it again with this book.

If you love complex characters rich with backstory then you’ll love this book. The book starts with a lot of world building that makes it feel slow but once the story-line picks up it is hard to put down.

  • Amazing first step into adult fiction!

    Meg M. - 1 year 5 months ago

Sarah J. Maas knocks it out of the park with her first official step into the world of adult fantasy! This book has all the depth and imagination of the Throne of Glass series with that extra bit of oomph that she wasn't able to put into her teen fiction. With an incredible cast of characters, a hefty dose of action and heartbreaking plot twists that would put Game of Thrones to shame, Crescent City is a brilliant start to what I hope will be a very long series!

  • Another Amazing Series started by Sarah J. Maas

    Cassandra C. - 4 years ago

Departing from her teen roots, Sarah J. Maas has written a fantastic adult fantasy book. This story follows Bryce, half-fae and half-human, and the struggles she faces while living in a world where humans are seen as cannon fodder. There are many twists to the mysteries of why Bryce's friend was murdered, how a mystic artifact was stolen, and how can all species live in peace with each other. I enjoyed this book and look forward to seeing where this series leads. Fans of Maas may feel like this book is too familiar to her other series, but this is her area of expertise and it shines.

  • Modern Fantasy

    Sky K. - 4 years ago

Sarah J. Maas diverts from the world of the Fae and introduces a modern city filled with werewolves, demons, and fallen angels. Equal parts new adult romance and fantasy quest, Crescent City is rich in detail, magic, and action. Crescent City is well-written and spunky; perfect for fans of Harry Potter, A Court of Thorns and Roses, and classic fantasy fiction.
