Overview

Here are stories of robots gone mad, of mind-read robots, and robots with a sense of humor. Of robot politicians, and robots who secretly run the world--all told with the dramatic blend of science fact and science fiction that has become Asmiov's trademark.

The three laws of Robotics:

1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm
2) A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

With these three, simple directives, Isaac Asimov changed our perception of robots forever when he formulated the laws governing their behavior. In I, Robot, Asimov chronicles the development of the robot through a series of interlinked stories: from its primitive origins in the present to its ultimate perfection in the not-so-distant future--a future in which humanity itself may be rendered obsolete.

  • Great quick read of classic SciFi!

    Martina A. - 5 years ago

As a fan of TV and movie SciFi I decided to embark on reading some classic SciFi books this year. Started with "I, Robot" which has nothing to do with the movie other than providing characters. Loved how the 3 laws of robotics are interwoven into the story and constantly being interpreted. Realized how concepts in this book show up years/decades later in TV shows and movies. Highly recommend for a quick spring/summer read! #SpringPicks

  • Sick of Dystopias?

    Zora S. - 5 years 9 months ago

Gosh this book is fun! Innovative and thought-provoking as ever, this product of Isaac Asimov's disdain for robot takeover stories is as fresh as when he wrote it.

  • Completely Worth Its Vaunted Reputation

#SummerReading This collection of short stories by unarguably one of the greatest science fiction authors of all time, Isaac Asimov, is rightly considered one of the most celebrated and recommended in the whole expanse of the science fiction genre. The stories are a related set of tales about Asimov's imagined perception of robotics in the future and how they affect society, they also offer the setup for his much-renowned Robot series, a part of his "Greater Foundation" universe. The stories are perhaps a bit dated for the modern reader but that not at all detracts from their power and elegance. I think Isaac Asimov became a better writer as time went on but this collection was still a fantastic read. I consider it a must-read for any science fiction fan.
