National Bestseller
On November 15, 1959, in the small town of Holcomb, Kansas, four members of the Clutter family were savagely murdered by blasts from a shotgun held a few inches from their faces. There was no apparent motive for the crime, and there were almost no clues.
As Truman Capote reconstructs the murder and the investigation that led to the capture, trial, and execution of the killers, he generates both mesmerizing suspense and astonishing empathy. In Cold Blood is a work that transcends its moment, yielding poignant insights into the nature of American violence.

Truman Capote's first non-fiction novel. In Cold Blood is about the murder of a Kansas family, and the impact the tragic event had on the town. The most surprising thing about this book, was it follows the men responsible for the murders and the events leading up to their capture. Capote started writing this book when the men were apprehended, and during their trial. With accounts from both men about life struggles, fears, and remorse. Capote captures the sorrow one person can have on both good and evil. Beautifully written, the reader will not be able to put this book down, well written from start to finish.
HPB Staff ReviewA true story of the murder of the Clutter family that took place in the peaceful town of Holcomb, Kansas in 1959. Truman Capote's telling of this horrendous crime left me with a feeling of empathy for not only the victims but oddly, the criminals as well. This book was written in such a way that felt more like a fiction story than an account of a true crime; it was so enthralling I couldn't put it down! I can't recommend this book enough to anyone interested in true crime.
