Jack Kirby, co-creator of The Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and the Inhumans, shocked the industry in the mid-1970s when he departed Marvel comics for their competition, DC Comics. But the industry had no idea what was in store. Writing and drawing across four new books (Mister Miracle, Jimmy Olsen, The Forever People, and The New Gods), Kirby launched his most audacious project: The Fourth World! Now, published across four Omnibus editions, in reading order, comes the complete Jack Kirby experience as never before collected. "The Fourth World" is a mythological masterpiece of Superhero Gods, Monsters, and the innocent people of Earth caught in between. Meet the warrior Orion, the devious Darkseid, the mercurial Metron for the first time. Boom Tubes, Granny Goodness, Motherbox - concepts that have since played a pivotal role in the contemporary DC Comics landscape, all appear here for the first time. My personal favorite is Darkseid, a villain bent on mastering the "Anti-Life" equation, which will allow him to control all living beings. Part Hitler, part Satan, his dialog is written in epic declarations at all time. It's goofy, beautiful, pure comics. Reading "Fourth World" is a glimpse into what makes Kirby's creations, both Marvel and DC, so appealing and long-lived. The series reads like a travelogue through 1970s pop-culture, through the mind of a man who helped define it.
