I put off reading this book for so long, primarily because I have seen the movies so many times that I was worried reading the original would be a let down, or (more concerning) would ruin the movies for me. I am ecstatic to announce that it did neither. The movies have remained a beloved piece of nostalgia, and the book was riveting. It had a cinematic feel, even though it is over 400 pages long, and the characters were so believable. I routinely found myself quoting passages as I was reading it to whomever was near me at the time (often Malcolm's pontifications). I will definitely read The Lost World soon, but I already have plans for a reread of Jurassic Park. Cannot recommend highly enough!
HPB Staff ReviewA classic, none the less! After falling in love with the movie 14 years ago, I picked up the book once I found out reading was actually fun. I finished it within a three day period during school and even stayed in during some recesses. Non-stop suspense through the whole book, and reading the book made the movie so much clearer (because a 6-year-old had no idea what breeding was or how cloning "worked"). I fell in love with the whole franchise, and because of it, I found my love for dinosaurs and how the earth worked. Definitely a read worth your time!
HPB Staff ReviewYou've seen Spielberg's Dinos rampage, but here you can read their minds as they plot to escape their pens and dine on their fast food! A mix of scientific knowledge of the dinosaurs, with just a splash of Chaos Theory that will keep you coming back for more!
HPB Staff ReviewWhat happens when ultra-sophisticated technology, greed, and raw prehistoric power meet? Jurassic Park. Using the undeniable power of the dollar and the leveraging of unproven cloning techniques, reclusive billionaire, John Hammond has accomplished the seemingly impossible, the recreation of the age of dinosaurs as a tourist attraction! The park is about to open, but investors are anxious and corporate espionage threatens to destroy years of hard work. There are T-Rexes and Velociraptors running loose, as well as other carnivores, including Pterodactyls and Compys. Oh, and did I mention that the Velociraptors were on the way to the mainland? Crichton has breathed life into an incredible world of long extinct dinosaurs, capturing the attention and imagination of the reader from first page to the last. Add a couple of dedicated paleontologists, an eccentric mathematician, two precocious children, and Crichton's wonderful knack for spinning a tale, and you have a rip-roaring adventure reminiscent of Jules Verne's classics.
HPB Staff Review"Jurassic Park" was assigned to me for a class. I didn't know there WAS an original novel before that. I do say this book is ultimately a winner. It sparked the imagination, making its crisis and inventions seem believable (even if the science is not all there). If anything, sometimes it can be a little to bogged into the lingo. Regardless, I really need to see its more famous movie. #SpringPicks
