With the line between enemies and allies blurred Emilia is always on guard. She's not sure who to trust and is trying to figure out who her actual enemies are. With plot twists and reveals about what Emilia's twin was doing before her death, this book was hard to put down and left me eagerly awaiting the sequel.
HPB Staff ReviewThis book was difficult to get into at first, but it picked up rather quickly. I had high expectations for this due to the authors previous series, and I was not disappointed. The love interest didn’t even show up until page 80-ish, so I can already tell this is going to be a very slow burn series, and that makes me love it all the more. Wrath (the love interest in this novel) might not be the love interest for the rest of the series due to the plot and that is extremely thrilling for me. Emilia, the protagonist, is so relatable and realistic. I have all the feels for Wrath and THE PLOT TWIST!!!! Wow. I have a suspicion he was just playing a hand and trying to protect Emelia, and it all somehow seems chivalrous in his mind. I suppose we’ll see what happens in ten or so months. This is a novel I wish I could forget over and over again so I could reread it for the first time a hundred times. I will say that, because I understood Kerri’s writing from her first novels, I predicted one aspect of the plot twist. (The other aspect was a complete surprise.) However, it didn’t take away from the novel at all, which is unique. There isn’t enough I could say about Kerri and this book that would relay how much I love her and her writings. #SpringPicks
