  • Even if a love is genuine, can it still be wrong?

    Alexander T. - 1 year 1 month ago

Vladimir Nabokov's novel "Lolita", is a unique and masterfully crafted work of an intense and equally passionate love affair, that challenges the reader's sense of what is right and wrong. Humbert, representing a well-rounded, well-educated sense of the European lifestyle, falls in love with Lolita, who represents a postwar America, new and bright, yet vulgar and untamed. Lolita, however, is a 12-year-old "nymphet" that Humbert associates with a childhood love that was never fulfilled. Throughout the novel, we go back and forth between Humbert trying to maintain a sense of self-control around Lolita, until one day when Lolita's mother asks Humbert to watch over her, and the line is crossed. This single act leaves the reader to question, even if love is genuine, can it still be wrong, and who decides?

Beautiful writing, opens public's eye about how disgusting people can be. #bannedbook

Lolita is a classic for a reason. Even though it is of an extremely sensitive subject, it is not at all written in a "smutty" way. Lolita is without a doubt the most beautiful use of the English language that I have read thus far. What's wild, is that its not even Nabokov's first language!

  • Lolita

This is a story that is so uncomfortably raw that you can't help but continue to read on. The story captures the two sides of a man who desperately wants to be better, but his desires are too big to contain. And a girl who is thrown into a world that never really gave her a chance. This story is one that is so disturbed, yet somehow makes you connect with the characters and keeps you entangled into the story until the very end.

  • Humbert Humbert you devil!

If you’ve only ever seen the movie, you’ve only gotten half the story! Once you read it, you’ll see why it’s a banned (but great) book!
