Mrs. Mallard was sure that the pond in the Boston Public Gardens would be a perfect place for her and her eight ducklings to live. The problem was how to get them there through the busy streets of Boston. But with a little help from the Boston police, Mrs. Mallard and Jack, Kack, Lack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, and Quack arive safely at their new home.

This brilliantly illustrated, amusingly observed tale of Mallards on the move has won the hearts of generations of readers. • Watch out, ducks crossing!!!

A must-have for any children's library! This wonderful story, written and illustrated by Robert McCloskey, takes us on a journey of a family of mallards and their exciting adventure to find a home for their ducklings. I can remember vividly my child's wide-eyed interest in the story as we follow this duck family from a rural landscape to the sanctuaries of public parks within the boundaries of a big city. The daddy duck runs off as scout for a safe home while momma duck picks up the rear and thus leads her little ducklings through the big city to their home. The book is beautify illustrated and brings a warm feeling of our grandparent's times and opens a dialogue about old cars, oddly dressed police officers and of course city scenes from yesteryear. Further reading by McCloskey is recommended including his other award winners, "Lentil" and "Blueberries for Sal". These are sure to be on your child's next list of must haves. Lastly, I feel it paramount that we spend time with our children reading and appreciating nature and animals, as the bond between our children and nature (The green bond they call it) begins early. In a day and age of iPhones, Netflix (more like net-babysitter), and TV on multiple devices around the house it is more important than ever that the next generation appreciate and even defend our earth and its fleeting bounty. McCloskey will definitely help them do that.

My children loved this book when I read it to them when they were young. The recent purchase was for my grandchild who will be here in June. Can't wait to share this cute story with the new kid!
