Overview

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical, martial-arts action.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison. Kelsier "snapped" and found in himself the powers of a Mistborn. A brilliant thief and natural leader, he turned his talents to the ultimate caper, with the Lord Ruler himself as the mark.

Kelsier recruited the underworld's elite, the smartest and most trustworthy allomancers, each of whom shares one of his many powers, and all of whom relish a high-stakes challenge. Only then does he reveal his ultimate dream, not just the greatest heist in history, but the downfall of the divine despot.

But even with the best criminal crew ever assembled, Kel's plan looks more like the ultimate long shot, until luck brings a ragged girl named Vin into his life. Like him, she's a half-Skaa orphan, but she's lived a much harsher life. Vin has learned to expect betrayal from everyone she meets, and gotten it. She will have to learn to trust, if Kel is to help her master powers of which she never dreamed.

This saga dares to ask a simple question: What if the hero of prophecy fails?

  • Magic infused writing

An expertly and magically crafted world. You become apart of the crew in their rich and exhilarating adventures. With unforgettable characters, 600+ pages of nail biting excitement and underlining moral dilemmas, this "book" will have you crying, laughing and astounded. Unique and mysterious powers used by the characters will be refreshing for those looking for something other than the norm. Remember, "there's is always another secret."

  • It is amazing!

    Nikki L. - 2 years 2 months ago

I have not read a book with a magic system that is so believable. While reading "Mistborn" you feel like the magic is real and that you could even have the power, you just didn't know it. I also love how well written the characters are and how it was so easy to fall in love with all of the crew.

  • Pretty Good!

Good read. First few chapters are pretty gritty and heavy for my tastes, but overall it is excellent. A very well developed magic system, as is common with Sanderson.

  • Rethinking My Thoughts

    James H. - 4 years 11 months ago

Exciting, rich, fresh, new. This book was really hyped and I went in with a lot of expectations. I think I like the first half better than the second, but it's stayed in my memory very well. I think I was a little unfair while I was reading it, and I've really come around. It really is very, very good. I'd like to read it again. I also really enjoy The Way of Kings.

  • Most well-written fantasy series I've ever read

    Brianna C. - 4 years 11 months ago

Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy has completely stolen my fascination. I am a classic Sci-Fi/Fantasy geek and am a big fan of all the classics (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars, The Chronicles of Narnia, ...). While each of those holds a special place in my heart, I can honestly say that this trilogy is the most crafty, consistent, well-written series I've ever read. Sanderson creates a universe with fantasy concepts that are original and intriguing. But most importantly, he creates rules and sticks to them! Never does he expect you as the reader to just accept something. Rather, he craftily explains his universe and the rules that regulate it, then he stands by those principles. Best of all, he somehow manages to answer EVERY SINGLE QUESTION that I had throughout the series by the end of the third book. No string was left untied, no cliff left hanging, no character untended. #SpringPicks
