Since "My Hero Academia" seems to be nearing an end, I thought it would be a great time for people to jump into the manga. There are apparent similarities to Naruto on how "My Hero Academia" revolves around a hero that is obsessed on becoming more powerful or greater than they were before. Where "My Hero Academia" distinguishes itself is how it deconstructs and rebuilds ideals of the superhero genre. So now is a great time to jump into a new manga with rich and fascinating characters.
HPB Staff ReviewMy Hero Academia is the story of a version of our world where people are born with Quirks - superpowers that can range from making a pencil float to shooting explosions out of their hands. It follows Izuku Midoriya, a boy born "Quirkless", but regardless of this he wants nothing more than to grow up and be like the number one hero in the world, All Might. Kohei Horikoshi takes the modern popularity of the superhero world and aptly puts it in the "shonen" (obstacle) jump format - a popular format of manga storytelling. My Hero Academia is a must-read for any fan of the manga superhero or shonen genre.
HPB Staff ReviewI started reading this series with my daughter and fell in love with it. One of the best things about the whole series is they show all kinds of super powers and how they are used to help people. They have super heroes whose powers are suited well to rescuing and protecting people from the fallout of a superhero/villian fight or natural disaster as much as they show superheroes fighting villains as per normal for superhero comics. Super powers, or quirks in this case, are the norms for people with 80% of people having some special ability. However only a small percentage of quirk users can go on to become super heroes. Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero but dis quirk-less. Still that doesn't stop him from striving to be a super hero in his own right which is seen by the strongest superhero All Might. All Might gives Izuku his power after witnessing the boy's selfless act of courage and bravery. From there it's an action-packed tale of how Izuku becomes the ultimate superhero of all time. #SummerReading
