Arthur Dent is an absolutely middle-of-the-road, couldn't-pick-him-out-of-a-line-up ordinary guy. That is, until he finds out his best friend is an alien, the Earth is about to blow up and that the question of life, the universe and everything might exist only in his brain. This raucous sci-fi adventure is now a classic, and for good reason. I have re-read it multiple times, and it remains hilarious, absurd and insightful each time. Douglas Adams truly was a comedic genius.
HPB Staff ReviewThe Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is a book that doesn't take itself too seriously, in fact - it's written in a way that mocks typical scifi tropes. There's plenty of quirky one liners and strange creatures. Douglas Adams has a very specific writing style and voice that stands out from other authors. The main character learns about the multiple planets, aliens, and customs along with the reader. He's a very relatable character.
HPB Staff ReviewThis is one of my favorite series. I've read it multiple times and I still laugh out loud every time. It's a timeless classic. It will still be funny 100 years from now. #SummerReading
A great summer read for 2020! Laugh out loud funny. A new favorite.
This book is one of the only books I have ever caught myself laughing out loud. I actually did it mid-flight With a plane full of people. Hitchhikers found a way, time and time again, to catch me off guard and hit that ridiculously funny button. It’s also super smart and still very relevant. #summerreading
