  • Not Just for Western Fans

Don't be scared off by the size. This beautiful, if often brutal, epic of friendship, love, and violence in the Old West will leave you wishing for more. Beginning in the borderlands of southern Texas and ending in the far northern reaches of Montana, author McMurtry portrays the vast expanses covered by a captivatingly diverse group of cowboys with startling vividness. Expect tears, laughs, and shock as you delve into one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) western novel of all time.

  • LONESOME DOVE stands alone as a tribute to the West and the amazing men and women of all cultures.

A voracious reader of many genres since childhood, the characters, towns, tales, emotions and events in Lonesome Dove come to life! Swear you can hear the cattle on the trail, the horses snorting, the hell bitch squealing, taste fried eggs doused with coffee and almost smell Deet's dirty, quilted breeches. The characters are so well developed and simple yet complex simultaneously you feel you've known them forever. Who else can write like this? I had read McMurtry books prior, some were not as well crafted as this and others, however, Lonesome Dove is the only book whose characters became so close to my heart and touched, structured and restructured concepts and truths, honesty and the tenet that human relationships and friendship were of a depth unconsidered anywhere else giving a view to the core of the man who knew these things well enough to implant in fictional people who will cling to your life always. Thank God for such people as Larry McMurtry.

  • A Pulitzer Prize masterpiece

Great book. Captured, I think, what being a real cowboy was. Now I want to read some of his other books. Started off a little slowly while characters were being introduced, but then picked it up as often as I could. Recommend for serious readers.
