This was an unexpected book in many ways. The combination of sci-fi and philosophy was so well done. Definitely putting this on my reread shelf. #SpringPicks

This space adventure starts slow but has a lot to offer. It's intriguing, has excellent descriptive language, and underlying moral lessons.

  • Literally Out of This World

    Elizabeth B. - 5 years 10 months ago

Unlike C.S. Lewis' other well known favorites such as The Chronicles of Narnia, Out of The Silent Planet is much more challenging intellectually by challenging the reader to picture things unlike our world and what we know. To the theological question 'what if there are aliens' this book, and its following sequels, answer that question. The book is about a man named Ransom, hired by a couple of other men to explore a planet. The three men travel to outer space and Ransom ends up exploring this mysterious planet alone and is eventually accompanied by an odd creature. It presents an interesting adventure and can be daunting on the weaker reader but is so enlightening and deep with meaning it will be worth the work. It is a great book, and after this catch the other two books of C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy called Perelandra and That Hideous Strength. Also, it is more of a college and highschool level book. #SummerReading
