Overview

There's never been a better time to discover the novels behind the blockbuster Starz original series Outlander. Blending rich historical fiction with riveting adventure and a truly epic love story, here are the first four books of Diana Gabaldon's New York Times bestselling saga that introduced the world to the brilliant Claire Randall and valiant Highlander Jamie Fraser:

OUTLANDER
DRAGONFLY IN AMBER
VOYAGER
DRUMS OF AUTUMN

Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach--an "outlander"--in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743. Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life, and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives.

  • These books were written with a lot of care, attention to details, emotion & love.

These books were amazing. The way Diana Gabaldon writes is very interesting. She keeps you coming back for more with her different characters, with her humor and incessant research of the period, the descriptions of the scenes are all amazing. If there is any downside to these books would be in some sections the storyline drags with “history” that could be shortened. The main reason I still gave the books 5 stars is because when I starting reading them I became part of the book. It’s like you are walking right along with them. Lots of emotions played out in these stories.

  • Outlander is Out of this World

This book (series) has reminded my all time favorite for over 25 years. It is the most amazing blend of historical fiction - romance - time travel that I have ever read. The series on Starz is good - but the books are so much better. Outlander starts off this highly addictive series. It is a timeless love story - literally. Apparently certain people are born with the ability to travel through standing stones (like at Stonehenge). So Claire accidentally falls through the stones and winds up 200 years earlier. She falls in with a band of Scots. Not everyone is trustworthy but she soon learns she can trust Jamie with her life, her heart, and even the truth of where she's from. Jamie is simultaneously honorable and criminal - religious and vengeful. Exactly the kind of guy any gal would want in her corner. Diana Gabaldon is masterful in weaving characters in and out of the storylines. Don't let the length scare you - her attention to detail and ability to create suspense keep you turning pages. When you get to the end you'll be sad it's over. You'll miss the characters and want to start the next book right away. Best #SummerReading ever!
