Overview

In this stunning new book, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers"--the best and the brightest, the most famous and the most successful. He asks the question: what makes high-achievers different?

His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: that is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing. Along the way he explains the secrets of software billionaires, what it takes to be a great soccer player, why Asians are good at math, and what made the Beatles the greatest rock band.

Brilliant and entertaining, Outliers is a landmark work that will simultaneously delight and illuminate.

  • Great insight!

I liked this book, it made several good points into why some people were so successful and it had a lot to do with hard work and time spent perfecting your skills. I would definitely recommend this to any young person wondering how they are going to be successful.

  • Thought provoking

I read this book last year, and I still think about bits and pieces every week. I was able to connect this into aspects of my own life and there were valuable lessons given that I see in my everyday now. Great as an audiobook as well. #SpringPicks

  • Excellent writing and a must-read

    Mason T. - 5 years 7 months ago

Gladwell demystifies ultra-successful people, or "outliers" as he refers to them, and offers a more complete story of how they got to where they are. Talent and hard work and the most common reasons that come to mind, but Gladwell examines the greater context behind what leads people to success and the factors that are often ignored. #RequiredReading

  • Great read if you are at all curious about humans and what makes them tick.

#summmerreading Highly recommend it. While it does not fully explain everything, it offers a very good framework for understanding why some individuals succeed and others do not.
