In one sense this is a very simple book about showing that paranormal events do not happen. That, however, is not really the focus of the book. Instead it is about discovering how and why many of the scams, illusions, and oddities of the human brain work to make the paranormal feel so visceral and believable. The method that Richard Wiseman uses to do this is not simply explaining the history and science of the phenomena discussed in each chapter, but instead gives you instructions on how to recreate the illusion yourself. There is something joyous and mischievous about not simply knowing that something is fake, but that you can do it yourself to friends and family
