Overview

The #1 New York Times bestselling series

Red Queen, by #1 New York Times bestselling author Victoria Aveyard, is a sweeping tale of power, intrigue, and betrayal, perfect for fans of George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones series.

Mare Barrow's world is divided by blood--those with common, Red blood serve the Silver-blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. Before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.

To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard--a growing Red rebellion--even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction.

One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays, the only certainty is betrayal.

  • Power is a Dangerous Game

    Heather C. - 1 year 6 months ago

Red Queen takes place in a world where the color of one's blood determines your worth and there is nothing worse than being a red. The main character Mare, alongside her family, are reds whose sole purpose in life is to serve the silvers whose silver blood gives them the power of the gods. Having barely enough to survive, Mare uses her talents as a pickpocket to give her family what they need even at a great personal risk to herself. Through a twist of fate, she is placed in front of the royal silver family when she discovers that she has a power of her own, even while her blood remains red. Once discovered by the silver King, Mare is forced to pretend she is a silver alongside the rest of them or her family will be killed, but who can Mare trust when even she can't explain where her powers come from? This book held my interest from the very beginning, with several twists and turns that gave me no choice but to sit and finish the book as soon as possible. Mare is a young character who begins the story extremely naive and that can sometimes be very frustrating for the reader. Luckily as the story goes on, Mare begins to grow as a character and discovers who she truly is and what she is willing to fight for. The Red Queen's world is a unique experience for the reader, that I can't wait to continue being a part of with each continual book in the series.

  • Anyone can betray anyone.

    Leena R. - 2 years 5 months ago

I normally do not read trilogies but I absolutely loved this book. I stayed up hours late into the night and woke up hours earlier just to get in a few chapters and see what happens next. It is Harry Potter meets The Hunger Games. Every time I thought I could predict what happens next I was wrong but pleasantly surprised with where my favorite characters ended up. It's truly a captivating read about a dystopian future and the start of a revolution. It is well written and action packed. I must admit the cover of this book is what initially attracted me to read it and I cannot wait until the next book comes out by Victoria Aveyard (my new favorite author).

  • Dystopian meets Contemporary Teen Fiction

    Jaimie J. - 3 years 5 months ago

Red Queen starts out as you expect--typical futuristic dystopian society, people with weird superpowers, and a societal divergence. However, our heroine, Mare, is not what we expect. Unlike other dystopian, teen series, this heroine comes across much more real. We can all see ourselves in her and how she finds herself. She is selfish like we are. She's scared as we all are. She's intimated by herself. And, not to spoil anything, but she's susceptible to pretty boys and the idea of being a hero--kind of like we all are. Red Queen will have you hooked, up all night reading, and would make a great gift for anyone that's tired of reading the same, old things.

  • Amazing book series.

I read this book when I was in middle school, today I find that I still love it just the same. I loved all the twists and turns of this series. There were so many times where I had though the book would go in a certain direction, and then it would completely blow me away with something I didn't expect. I love Victoria Aveyard's writing style and am so excited to see what other books sh'll write. #SpringPicks
