Overview

"It's easy to run out of accolades for this superb series... The dialogue is smart, arch and always rings true, and the visuals, rendered digitally, are alluring and inventive. The Stalk, an eight-eyed, eight-limbed female bounty hunter, remains a creepy favorite." -The New York Times

  • Sci-Fi adventure following two new parents trying to escape a galaxy-wide civil war.

    Matt G. - 1 year 1 month ago

Planet vs. moon! Wings vs. horns! Cats vs. lying! This is the world of Saga. A Sci-Fi/fantasy epic that is equal parts funny, violent, heartwarming, and action-packed. The story follows Marko and Alana, former rival soldiers in a war between planets and moons. Now AWOL, and with their new daughter, they explore the galaxy in their tree-spaceship trying to outrun their past while making a new life together. Watch our heroes deal with bounty hunters, ghosts, lying cats, and the most dangerous foe of all, the in-laws! Easily one of the most original and immersive graphic novels out today, and a great starting point for anyone looking to get into comics.

  • If you like your Sci-Fi to have heart and soul Saga is for you.

    Samantha B. - 2 years 1 month ago

Saga is a story about and told by Hazel. She is a child born into a forbidden family. Her parents are from alien races that have been at war with each other long enough to sublet the fighting to other planets. Her parents fell in love, laid down arms, and now they are on the run. Neither side of this intergalactic war wants their people to see that peace is possible between the two races, war is just too profitable and they will do whatever it takes to make sure Hazel is never brought into the open. Do not let the dramatic synopsis fool you, this is not the real housewives of outer space. Each issue of Saga is grounded in issues relevant to our current reality. The cost of war, the meaning of family, and parents' willingness to do anything to protect their child. Saga will make you laugh, cry, feel warm fuzzies, and have you cheering when enemies are taken out with laser guns. If you like your Sci-Fi to have heart and soul Saga is for you.

  • Set in space but about the heart

    Jason K. - 3 years 10 months ago

In his ongoing comic, Saga, writer Brian K. Vaughan tells the story of a star-crossed couple and their newborn child fleeing their war-ravaged home-worlds. The couple travel across a variety of environments, from worlds of ghosts to living planets, but Vaughan's storytelling and naturalistic dialogue--combined with Fiona Staples' expressive art--grounds the story in realism. The surprising and unusual settings are superseded by this focus on character and the story unfolds into a touching portrait of a family just trying to stay together...and alive. Saga Deluxe Edition Volume 1 HC collects the first eighteen issues and is a perfect introduction to this Hugo-award winning series.

  • Star-crossed intergalactic love story

    Rochelle B. - 4 years 3 months ago

Never have I read a graphic novel whose artwork is as beautiful as its storyline. Vaughan and Staples are a magnificent team and create one of the most imaginative worlds I have ever encountered. This one of a kind comic contains characters and worlds that are perfectly flawed and unique, and effortlessly combines action, romance, science fiction, and fantasy. This edition includes original artwork and scripts in addition to the first eighteen issues of the comic book series.

  • Imagine 'Star Wars' meets 'Romeo and Juliet' in graphic novel form.

    Laura Z. - 4 years 4 months ago

Saga is the story of two star-crossed lovers, Marco and Alana, caught in the middle of an intergalactic war, who have also just given birth to their daughter Hazel. While it could be described as "Star Wars" meets "Romeo and Juliet," the storytelling is fresh and Vaughan creates characters you instantly find yourself rooting for. His writing is witty, thoughtful and at times contains very mature content (not for young readers). Staples' artwork is beautiful and it is a perfect fit for this book. This deluxe edition also includes bonus sketches from Staples. The series has won many of the comic industry's highest awards, the Eisner Awards and the Harvey Awards. This year Vaughn received an Eisner Award for best writer. In 2013, "Saga" won a Hugo Award from the World Science Fiction Society for best graphic story.
