the concept of this book is so cool and i very much loved the writing style along with the worldbuilding. i really got attached to the plot and to citra and rowan and scythes faraday volta and curie. the themes of cruelty and compassion and life and death really shone through. and it made me gasp twice and almost made me cry! i’m very excited to read the sequels #SpringPicks
This series is definitely worth a read! Neal Shusterman is one of my favorite authors. His writing style, characters, and integration of real-world issues is what makes his books so good! I really did enjoy this book, but it didn't quite live up to the love I have for Dry and the Unwind series. I think the biggest (and really, only) problem I had with this book was that the world is the most complex of all the books I've read by him, and it's harder to really identify with, if that makes sense. Nonetheless, everything I love about Shusterman, as listed above, is present in this book, and the concept is so unique and very well done! #SummerReading
This book is brilliant and emotional. The world of Scythe is well-developed, and I was engaged throughout the entire story. If you like danger and action, this is the book for you! Scythe kept me on the edge of my seat with all of its plot twists, and I was anxiously awaiting the fates of the characters. Neal Shusterman is a talented writer and I would recommend this book 100%!
HPB Staff ReviewYES! Get this book! Surprisingly I loved this book, and more so I loved the second and third in the trilogy; Thunderhead and The Toll. Super fast read, even at 500 pages. Highly recommend.
I was surprised by this book! I wasn't sold on the synopsis, and it just didn't seem like a book I'd like. However, I picked it up because I liked the author. And OH MY! This book blew my mind! It was all I could think about for days and I was ready to talk about it with everyone and anyone who would listen! It has great themes, compelling characters, intense moments, and funny moments. This series literally made me laugh and cry. It's one of my new favorites. Give it a shot!
