This is a dystopian style book with a twist. It deals with the socio-economic class and it is determined by the color you can perceive. There is a giant rabbit, man-eating plants, and a girl with a retrouss nose. The writer is extremely witty and imaginative. He creates a whole world with conveyor streets, night blindness, and places you SHOULD NOT go. This book grabs you, holds you and leaves you wondering what will happen next.
HPB Staff ReviewMany folks enjoy Jasper Fforde for his Thursday Next novels or Nursery Crime series, but I think "Shades Of Grey" is by far his best work to date. It's a story that is in turns a romance, a social satire, and a revolutionary thriller. Imagine a society where your standing is decided by what part of the color spectrum you're able to perceive. This is the world of "Shades of Grey" where Eddie Russett meets Jane a lowly "grey" who is full of secrets and surprises. Eddie's friendship with Jane force him to reevaluate everything he knows to be true, and if Eddie manages to survive the misadventures Jane leads him on he may just turn the entire color cast system on its ear.
