I'm just recently getting around to reading these. I finished A Discovery of Witches and immediately launched into the sequel, Shadow of Night. While enjoyable, for much of the book it seems as though the plot isn't really moving forward. Everything seems to progress towards the end, and I tend to find that frustrating. However, I really like the main characters, and the supporting cast of real and imagined historical figures is delightful. The furthering of the main characters' relationship is touching, and the little touches Harkness places throughout make this a worthwhile read.
HPB Staff ReviewShadow of Night is the second book of the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. It takes the reader on a journey through time and space to Elizabethan London, where Diana must learn to navigate both her magic and the change that comes over Matthew when he is among his old crew of noble and ne'er-do-well friends. This is my favorite book in the series because of the rich history and detail that immerses the reader in a new time and place inspired by history and embellished by magic.
HPB Staff ReviewDiana and Matthew's search for the lost manuscript creates an opportunity for time traveling. In this second book of the trilogy, they visit sixteenth century England and run into many historical figures. They learn much more about The Book of Life and Diana's witchy abilities. By the time this book ended, I could hardly wait to get to Book 3!
