If you LOVED "Scott Pilgrim Versus the World," then you will LOVE Bryan O'Malley's "Snotgirl." Lottie is an influencer who loves fashion and most importantly herself. The artwork is very cute and amusing, the color palette POPS, and the dialogue is very snottie! The characters are interesting and entertaining, my favorite would probably be Lottie's friend "cute girl" because a lot of her fashion is based off of Lolita fashion. Aside from all the fashion and friends, Lottie is solving a murder mystery while trying to keep her influencer status. Give it a try if you're looking for something cheesy, aesthetic, and snottie!!
HPB Staff ReviewThe weirdest part about Snotgirl is that Bryan Lee O'Malley (Scott Pilgrim) is not drawing it, and the best part is that Leslie Hung is. The story revolves around Lottie Person, a fashion blogger with an inordinate amount of followers. The story starts out casually with parties and Instagram posts, but it takes a turn for the grisly, with an ending I was not prepared for. The characters are people that you love to hate - especially Lottie. You never know if you should be cheering for her or against her. It's the same amazing storytelling you would expect from Scott O'Malley with the incredible art of Leslie Hung. Snotgirl will keep you enthralled and leave you waiting anxiously for the next volume.
HPB Staff ReviewI've never really found my place in the graphic novel section, but Snotgirl immediately caught my eye. Snotgirl comes from Brian Lee O'Malley, the creator of Scott Pilgrim, though there are few similarities between the two. Leslie Hung's illustrations give Snotgirl an anime feel, and set the tone for this surprising drama. Snotgirl is one part fashion blog satire, one part murder mystery. Main character Lottie Person has gorgeous green hair, a successful fashion blog and an awful attitude. Lottie uses unflattering nicknames for friends and enemies alike, and she's a self-centered and completely unreliable narrator. Most of the time, you're not sure if you're supposed to like her or not; that's part of Snotgirl's charm. The suspense builds as the story progresses, and I can't wait to see what the rest of Lottie's story holds. Snotgirl will keep you guessing... and leave you with green hair envy.
