  • Great coming of age magic realism story about friendship, fatherhood, and dualism.

    Juan G. - 5 years ago

This is an awesome book about two different comings of age, one for teenagers with a very interesting light/dark polarized relationship, and a second one for a man who finds himself on the verge of becoming an old man. Both stories intersect and converge at the end, in a masterful weaved narrative from Bradbury. There is also an evil circus and a lot of magic realism, which serve as a counterpart to the internal conflicts of the main characters and the main topics, friendship, fatherhood and life turning points. #SpringPicks

  • One of the oldest conflicts known to humankind

    Gregory T. - 5 years 7 months ago

Something Wicked This Way Comes (adapted into a film of the same name) is a story principally of two boys, James Nightshade and William Halloway, and their harrowing experiences with the mysterious and enigmatic Mr. Dark of Cooger & Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show. However, the novel also touches on several of the townsfolk of Green Town, Illinois, who all must struggle with one of the oldest conflicts known to humankind a deal too good to be true or a devil's bargain. Ray Bradbury's style is both unique and suspenseful (one entire chapter consists of nothing but a single sentence) and the point of view shifts carefully from character to character to give the reader numerous opportunities to empathize with the struggle against temptation lying deep within. After all, what wouldn't a person give to acquire their deepest desires? How bad could the cost be?

  • A timeless story of wonder and magic for all.

    Michael S. - 5 years 11 months ago

Ray Bradbury's world famous novel of coming of age terror brings both a fanciful and horrific story of temptation and dark magic. A story that pits the good and vulnerable against true evil and reminds us that family and hope is our greatest weapon against it. Timeless story for all.

  • A boyhood fantasy that will leave you terrified

    Gene L. - 7 years 2 months ago

This is one of my favorite books of all time, and the one book that depicts the perspective of a 12-year old boy, in all his wonder and complexity, better than any other. While the central plot involves two boys in a rural town in Illinois investigating strange doings involving a darkly sinister circus that has come to town, the broader scope of the novel is about what it means to be an adult, the yearning of the young to be old and the old to be young, and about the love of fathers and sons.
