This book is written for couples but as a single person, I still find it to be relevant and helpful to most relationships in my life. The book lays out that, according to this author, there are 5 love languages or ways we express love to others and the way we want love expressed back to us. The author suggests that not everyone understands their love individual language or how to convey their needs constructively to others. When love language needs aren't met, heartbreaking and serious misunderstandings about whether or not they are loved can occur. There is a chapter devoted to each love language, outlining how that language can be missed and how it can also constructively be expressed. The examples are followed by real-life examples of how couples experienced heartache and broken relationships by not understanding each other's point of view (love language) and how many have been able to reconcile by putting the love language practices in place. The basis seems to be that we all have ways we want to receive love and taking the time to understand ours, as well as those in our lives, can make all our lives more joyous.
