MARVEL At the sheer metafictional chutzpah of a graphic novel based on a story created in a podcast where three dudes and their dad play a tabletop role playing game in real time
Join Taako the elf wizard, Merle the dwarf cleric, and Magnus the human warrior for an adventure they are poorly equipped to handle AT BEST, guided ("guided") by their snarky DM, in a graphic novel that, like the smash-hit podcast it's based on, will tickle your funny bone, tug your heartstrings, and probably pants you if you give it half a chance.
With endearingly off-kilter storytelling from master goofballs Clint McElroy and the McElroy brothers, and vivid, adorable art by Carey Pietsch, The Adventure Zone: Here There be Gerblins is the comics equivalent of role-playing in your friend's basement at 2am, eating Cheetos and laughing your ass off as she rolls critical failure after critical failure.

Six years ago, popular podcasters the McElroy Brothers and their dad decided to play Dungeons and Dragons on a lark, and of course, record it. None of them knew what they were doing; all they knew how to do was make jokes. What evolved from of that original goofy beginning is the some of the most remarkable 150 hours of fantasy content created in the past decade. If you don't have that many hours to get through their podcast, this graphic novel adaptation is the perfect alternative. All the wit, charm, and character of the podcast is here, brought to life by Carey Pietch's fantastic art. This first volume covers the first story arc of their journey into The Adventure Zone.
HPB Staff ReviewDungeons and dragons, three hilarious brothers and their father, and comic books, what more can I ask for? This is the graphic novel adaptation of the first chunk of the adventure zone podcast and it is just as fun to read as the podcast is to listen to. The adventurers begin their long and winding journey on the hunt for a lost mine and battle some gerblins on the way. with a little help from their dungeon master they are going to pass (or not), all of the skill checks and have a great adventure!
HPB Staff ReviewWhen I discovered that my favorite podcast what making a graphic novel version of their adventures I was giddy. It is everything I wanted it to be and more. They perfectly encompass the spirit of D&D, which is to say they mostly make jokes, pick on the game master, and eventually play the game. The characters are memorable, hilarious, and well-meaning with their quest to be the best adventuring group you can listen and now read to.
HPB Staff ReviewFrom the hit Podcast The Adventure Zone comes the much awaited graphic novels that delighted loyal fans and new readers alike. A trio of adventurers joined with a capricious DM (god) journeys to the center of the traditional D&D dungeons in search of their wayward employer. They learn about life, love, and slaughter along they way, like any good group of murder hobos, and have a great time doing it.
HPB Staff ReviewAs someone without the attention span to listen to a 20-minute podcast, it took me a while to test out the hour-long "The Adventure Zone" when it was suggested to me. I have never fallen in love with three men and their father so fast. The Adventure Zone started as a one-shot replacement episode for the McElroy brothers' other podcast ("My Brother, My Brother, and Me," starring Justin, Travis, and "30 Under 30" media luminary Griffin McElroy). Together with their father, they began to play a Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition module which quickly became it's own show on the Maximum Fun podcast network. Now in its second season after 100 episodes, the brothers have released this graphic novel version of their first story arc. Starring the oldest brother as Taako the elf wizard, the middle brother as Magnus Burnsides the human fighter, and their father Clint as Merle, the dwarf "cleric," now you can join the boys in... THE ADVENTURE ZONE!
