  • Old Mythology, New Take

The first novel of this Young Adult series, "The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel," leaves the reader wanting...as only a great beginning to a series can do! As a mythology junkie, this series piqued my interest in that it has so many well known figures of newer and ancient mythology and gives them a little spin. What I liked the most about this book was that it opens the door for young readers to research the characters and learn about myths and legends outside of the Western mythologies that they already know. The book often attributes "every day" occurrences and events in world history to these people of legend, and gives the reader a fun, fanciful view of the world we live in. I'm excited to continue on with this series! The Alchemyst is an entertaining tale, quick read, and great book to lose yourself in.

  • If you liked Rick Riordan's Olympus series...

Really great and page turning! I thoroughly enjoyed the mixing of all kinds of mythology and history. It really peaked my interest in other types of world mythology other than the popular Greek/Roman. The author has an endless supply of characters, pulling them from real life, fiction, and some in-between so that you never really knew what kind of character to expect next. A great and age appropriate read for kids (and adults) who like history, fantasy, and adventure.
