The Armageddon Rag follows Sandy Blair as he searches for himself while uncovering the person responsible for the grisly murder of a band promoter. The characters in this book are familiar but sort of flat; each has a defining characteristic with which the reader can identify, but not really fleshed out otherwise. One could even nickname them: the addict, the flower child, the successful one... Having read the Song of Ice and Fire novels by Martin, the lack of character development left me a little disappointed, but not enough to let go of the excellent plot! I also wish the author hadn't been as repetitive: one character's voice was described as "gritty" several times, as if the reader would forget thirty pages later. Overall, I was sucked into the story and had much trouble putting the book down. I won't say that the gripping plot made up for what was lacking, but it did provide a good balance. This book is a great way to pass a few hours on a trip! It's not bulky in a carry-on bag for car or plane, but still enough substance to make the time fly.
