This book is an absolute thrill to read. I read this in three days. I couldn't wait to get to the next page. It's not as action-packed as the trilogy, but that's not really the point of the book. It is a fascinating look into the creation of President Snow's philosophy and the development of the games. The world is vastly different from the main trilogy, depicting the Hunger Games that are run ten years after a brutal war. The games are brutal. The displays are raw. But the readers can see how these games evolved into what we know from the main trilogy. Snow is a fascinating choice as a protagonist. He's not likable from a pleasant human being perspective, but he is charming and it's interesting to see how he descends to his persona seen in the trilogy. Collins points at things that lead to the modern games and information that we know from the trilogy, but she doesn't linger on it too long and beat the readers' head over with it. I cannot recommend this enough. #SpringPicks
This book was the perfect prequel/villain origin story it gave me so many answers that I didn’t even know I had questions to great read
#SpringPicks I read this book a couple weeks ago. It flowed nicely just like the Hunger Games books. There were interesting and complex characters that I was interested to keep learning more about as the story progressed. I wished there had been more action, like actual Hunger Games but during Coriolanus's time, but very little was mentioned about that. Lucy Gray Baird was a very crazy character but also intriguing. I was excited to hear more about her adventures in the arena but they only briefly mention what she had to do AFTER the fact near the end of the story. It just was lacking in action for sure. This book was more about the emotional growth of Snow and how he got to the top. Pretty much by cheating, just like everyone else in power. *eyeroll* It was good reading this though. It kept me entertained.
Excellent book! Answered so many questions that I had from the previous books :)
It was a gift for my daughter. She loved it & read it in 3 days!! She loves the Hunger Games series. My Grandson age 14 has read all the rest & will now read this one too.
