The Chain is broken up into two parts. The first is grounded "what would you do in this scenario?" thriller. This is the part of the story that worked for me. It had, for the most part, average, relatable characters being asked to do the impossible. Had the novel stopped there, I would have been thoroughly satisfied with, what would have been The Chain: a novella. The second half of the novel stretches credulity on so many levels and reads like a pulpy adventure novel, with these grounded characters (including one who is gravely ill) becoming action movie badasses, and the villains going from clever enough to pull off something as diabolical as The Chain to so idiotic you wonder how they remember to put their shoes on in the morning. Nevertheless, I am still giving The Chain a four-star review because it is exciting from cover to cover. Just expect a major shift in believability when you enter the second half of the novel.
Creepy, realistic, a very possible scenario in today's society; scary good. Stay detached from the story or it will make you paranoid.
Wow. Just wow. How has this not been picked up to be a movie yet? As another reviewer said, it was impossible to put down. Amazing story of a parents moral struggle of how to save their child by kidnapping another. Excellent all around. #Bannedbook
LOVED this book! Didn't want to put it down! The worst fear a parent has is their child going missing. What lengths would a parent go to to get their child back safely? As you read Rachel's journey to get her daughter back you feel all her emotions as if you were her. The thrills are diabolical....they never stop. You're on the edge of your seat. READ THIS!!
The only way to get your child back is to abduct another child...to continue the chain. This book was utterly unputdownable. The writing was not the best I've ever read, but the story was so compelling that it really didn't matter. I couldn't stop. I read this book over the course of two evenings - the book is in two parts - and I just HAD to know what was going to happen. You might think "Oh, I could never do that. I could never kidnap a child!" but as it's happening in the story, you think well, maybe you could do that if you had to. This was a really messed up story, but I highly recommend if the twisted and suspenseful is your deal.
