This book is my go-to reluctant reader pick! A tale of an underground city entirely unaware of the world above, quickly running out of resources. Two clever youngsters discover a tattered map and must find the way out. Classic. It was a quick read, like many young adult novels, and the story was engaging.
HPB Staff ReviewFollowing the rush of young Lina and Doon to save the residents of the underground city of Ember, this book is a fairly quick read that will keep you engaged the entire time. Despite being a YA novel, The City of Ember delves into the topics of government corruption, generational divide, and the importance of community- all without feeling like the reader is being talked down to.
