Alain de Botton has been one of my favorite people to turn to when I am in need of solace, inspiration, reflection, or education. His prose is playful, revealing, and perfect for when you want a little light reading, but are unwilling to compromise on substance. De Botton offers up simplified interpretations of works by Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Socrates, Epicurus, Seneca, and Montaigne and shares how these thinkers might help us cope with life's challenges. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is unfamiliar with the works of these philosophers or interested in improving their perspective on life.
