Overview

A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Another thrilling domestic suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Not a Happy Family

"The twists come as fast [as] you can turn the pages." --People

"I read this novel at one sitting, absolutely riveted by the storyline. The suspense was beautifully rendered and unrelenting!" --Sue Grafton

It all started at a dinner party. . .

A domestic suspense debut about a young couple and their apparently friendly neighbors--a twisty, rollercoaster ride of lies, betrayal, and the secrets between husbands and wives. . .

Anne and Marco Conti seem to have it all--a loving relationship, a wonderful home, and their beautiful baby, Cora. But one night, when they are at a dinner party next door, a terrible crime is committed. Suspicion immediately lands on the parents. But the truth is a much more complicated story.

Inside the curtained house, an unsettling account of what actually happened unfolds. Detective Rasbach knows that the panicked couple is hiding something. Both Anne and Marco soon discover that the other is keeping secrets, secrets they've kept for years.

What follows is the nerve-racking unraveling of a family--a chilling tale of deception, duplicity, and unfaithfulness that will keep you breathless until the final shocking twist.

  • What the heck happened

Engaging enough did not see the ending coming. Page Turner but wanted more. Good for a quick read you don’t want to invest a lot of thought in. #springpicks

  • A good 2-day thriller read

#Bannedbook Review I thought the story was good, a good thriller. The ending seems rushed in my opinion but otherwise. If you like a good thriller/drama, I would recommend this to you.

  • The Couple Next Door

It was okay, but I don't understand the hype. It seemed a bit simplistic and dull.

  • A solid psychological thriller that will draw you in and hold your interest.

The Couple Next Door is the first book that I ever read of Shari Lapena's, and it was all the hook I needed to add her to must-read-authors list. She does a fantastic job of immediately sucking you into the novel and leaving you on the edge of your seat, wondering what happened to baby Cora. Every character is suspect and layered. As far as negatives go, the only two strikes against it are that none of the characters are likable at all, but that is completely acceptable in the thriller genre. The other negative is that the ending is a little convoluted. Nevertheless, I devoured this one in a day and half. It is a quick, engaging read. #SummerReading

  • Come on baby, let's do the twist!

    Sarah B. - 5 years 9 months ago

This book kept me on the edge. Great writing style, plenty of wonderfully flawed characters and a well thought out plot. Only one question remains.... So many twists. It’s him, no it’s her, dang it’s this guy, oh shoot it’s both of them but wait....Justified ending? You decide. #SummerReading
