This book starts out with your heart already breaking for the main character, as soon as you read the first page you think nothing can go well for her. Then she meets a boy and what's better for a young teen girl than a nice, funny teen boy? Together they lift each other up and make themselves forget the heartbreak they have endured and are going to face again. Not only do they experience a relationship that most adults will never encounter, but they face situations that would knock anyone flat on their back. By the end of the book I promise you will have experienced a ray of emotions including amusement, anger, sadness, and angst. This book will not disappoint and I hope anyone who is encouraged to read it because of this review enjoys it thoroughly.
HPB Staff ReviewI knew the book was sad going in and that definitely helps... It was definitely an emotional ride for sure. Although sad at times, the book makes you grateful for the good things you have in your own life. It makes you laugh. It makes you cry. It makes you nervous, and curious to know what and when things will happen. This book was a real eye-opener for me. It helped me see the never-ending struggle that some people are forced to endure in this world. It deals with the very emotional human struggle to accept the reality that is death. It also addresses just how important it is to accept that reality. To make the most of the life you are dealt. To LIVE that LIFE to the fullest. The hands we are dealt in Life aren't always pleasant, or even fair. But that should never stop you from living it! This book made me think that perhaps death isn't the final. Perhaps it is just another bolt in the fabric of the quilt we call life. Who would've thought a story about star-crossed teens battling terminal cancer could be such an engaging, not to mention uplifting read? Who would've thought that a story could teach someone to look at things from another's perspective? To realize that Death is a part of everyone. Life is a part of everyone. And all we can do is LIVE the TIME that we have, while we have it. Even though I would highly recommend this book to anyone, I will say this....This book is not for everyone. It is sad. You will cry, get upset, or just hate things or circumstances in general...But pick it up, give it a shot, and I guarantee you will love it!!!!
