Overview

True fear is a gift.
Unwarranted fear is a curse.
Learn how to tell the difference.

A date won't take "no" for an answer. The new nanny gives a mother an uneasy feeling. A stranger in a deserted parking lot offers unsolicited help. The threat of violence surrounds us every day. But we can protect ourselves, by learning to trust--and act on--our gut instincts.

In this empowering book, Gavin de Becker, the man Oprah Winfrey calls the nation's leading expert on violent behavior, shows you how to spot even subtle signs of danger--before it's too late. Shattering the myth that most violent acts are unpredictable, de Becker, whose clients include top Hollywood stars and government agencies, offers specific ways to protect yourself and those you love, including...how to act when approached by a stranger...when you should fear someone close to you...what to do if you are being stalked...how to uncover the source of anonymous threats or phone calls...the biggest mistake you can make with a threatening person...and more. Learn to spot the danger signals others miss. It might just save your life.

  • How we can actively keep ourselves safe

    Olivia M. - 6 months ago

This book reads like a suspense/thriller and will grab you from page one! While it is filled with scary, true life stories from real people and events, by the time you are finished reading you will feel safer in the world. Why? Because Gavin De Becker illustrates how we can actively keep ourselves safe; how to trust our instincts and intuition as well as how to deal with stalkers, domestic violence and violence in the work place. De Becker teaches us survival signals, how to see them and how to utilize them. He is a long time specialist in security issues (primarily for large corporations and Governments as well as Public figures like Barbara Streisand and Oprah Winfrey) He has also been featured on Oprah several times for his work. I bought this book for myself and once I read it, I bought copies for my Mother as well as my four daughters. Get copies for everyone you love. This book is a real find.

  • The Gift of Fear

It is an interesting read. Makes some good points about things to watch out for. I am only 1/4 way through the book but it should be interesting to finish it. It would be a good read for women.

  • Good Lessons

    Andrew M. - 5 years 6 months ago

This book was an eye opener, listing many survival signals that seek to protect vulnerable people from harm, if they learn to recognize them. The book offers an insight into why certain things happen, these are actually not on the spur of the moment as many people believe, but once certain events have taken place. I found the first few chapters especially interesting, although it is good throughout. A must for women who sometimes feel insecure in certain situations, or for those looking for a way out of a difficult relationship. Trust your intuition and the signals that warn you of real danger, it may one day save your life. #BannedBook #BannedBook

Great lessons for life. Especially for women. Very intuitive. Young women should learn these messages early in life.

  • Great read for women, girls, mothers, daughters, and people who love them.

Very interesting look at the importance of intuition, how to cultivate it and respect it, and how to silence the little voice in our heads that tries to convince us that our intuition isn't reliable.
