EVERY DAY THE SAME
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She's even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life--as she sees it--is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

UNTIL TODAY
And then she sees something shocking. It's only a minute until the train moves on, but it's enough. Now everything's changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel goes to the police. But is she really as unreliable as they say? Soon she is deeply entangled not only in the investigation but in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?

  • Don't listen to the audio book right before bed.

    Elizabeth C. - 1 year 5 months ago

At the height of The Girl on the Train's popularity, you could, standing in the middle of a bookstore, toss a copy of the book in the air and it would be purchased before it hit the ground. I didn't think twice about the book until one night when I ran out of episodes of Forensic Files and needed something twisty, turny, and mystery-filled to occupy me while I did dishes. So I started listening to the audio version of The Girl on the Train. Then, it was 10 hours and 59 minutes later, and I had to go to work. Had I really listened to the entire thing in one go? Yes. Was it relaxing? No. It was a gripping and suspenseful waking nightmare. I recommend it to everyone. Also, maybe convince someone to bring you sandwiches a few times instead of staring up at your ceiling with a look of perplexed horror as the sun starts peeking through your broken Venetian blinds. Just saying.

  • An Alcoholic, A Missing Woman, A Death, and some Crazy!!

    Stephanie H. - 1 year 9 months ago

If you are interested in reading a book with a whole lot of crazy crammed into one story, then this is the book for you. The characters are well written and each character has their own form of complications, which made the book even more interesting. It is full of twists and turns, surprises, and suspense, and just when you think you got everything figured out, it throws you for a loop. I am excited to see the movie to see if it follows the book at all. All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read a mystery that will keep you guessing till the end.

  • Read this book!

    Kristi W. - 2 years 7 months ago

I haven't read a mystery book in my life, this book I couldn't put down. I read it in three days, and I'm a busy girl! The characters, the plot, the train. All of it, from paragraph one, will pull you in and never let go. You become invested and obsessed with the main character, who is riding the train to work and back. You think of all the things you see on your daily commute in a whole new way. Just a rumpled up pile of clothes along the tracks will change your life forever. Please do yourself one favor this year, read this book. I promise you will not regret the mystery, the agony , the questionable behavior from several characters. But I warn you, you will miss the characters once the book is over. And you will think of this book long after it's over.

  • Well-written thriller with great unlikable characters

    Jourden S. - 3 years 4 months ago

I cannot speak highly enough of "The Girl on the Train." I was coming out of a reading lull when I picked up Hawkins' book, not knowing anything about it other than its beautiful cover. I was glad I did because I finished it in less than two days. A Mystery filled with diverse characters, many of them women, many of them unlikable but interesting, this book is a thriller of its own kind, drawing you in not only with the suspense but with complex characters as well. Rachel is irresponsible, unreliable and insufferable, yet you root for her all the way. Sure, this well-written thriller may remind you of "Gone Girl," but Hawkins doesn't stand in Flynn's shadow. "The Girl on the Train" has a luminosity of its own.

  • I did NOT see that coming!

    Jaime M. - 4 years 9 months ago

I am not a huge mystery novel fan, but I could not put down this one from Paula Hawkins. Realistic, believable (and a few diabolical) characters? Check. Handling depression, loss, alcoholism, and manipulation? Check. Unexpected plot twist that will leave you talking about this book for a while to come? Absolutely. I read this book thinking "I know someone like this," "Wait, I might be like this," and then "I hope I never know anyone like this." Thank you to Paula Hawkins for creating multi-layered characters that are at once both recognizable and utterly foreign. I highly recommend Paula Hawkins' The Girl on the Train for adult summer reading and/or any book club!
