I bought this book when it first came out, but never read it. I don't know what took me so long to pick it up and read it. But I am glad I did. The story is funny, sad, tender and informative all at once. The characters are well written, and by the time the end of the book comes, you feel like the characters are your friends - like you are a part of the book. This is the kind of book that leaves you thinking about the characters long after the last page is turned. Wondering what they are doing? How they are? I recommend anyone who wants to laugh, to cry, to be angry, and happy, all at once read this book!
HPB Staff ReviewLoved it. Liked how it tells omniscient viewpoints. Really rallied with Minny and celia. #SpringPicks
I really liked this book and of course it is better than the movie! The characters were well developed and you felt sympathy and anger and understanding on a variety of levels. The circumstances are similar to how my friend described her upbringing in Alabama and her love for her nanny makes more sense now. #SummerReading
#SummerReading What a great book!! Decided to read it because I enjoyed the movie, and so glad I did. It is so much richer than the movie. The Help has the ability to bring you to laughter and move you to tears. I highly recommend this book. It is a quick read that you can finish on a weekend at the beach. It is also highly relevant with the current social justice movements.
It is GREAT! It is also funny in some parts but mostly serious. It's hard to imagine life like that back then. This is my third favorite book. I love the characters and the stories behind their background! Makes it a lot more interesting and it also helps me to imagine that I am there in the different areas of the book. Would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet!
