Overview

Now in paperback, the book no one can stop talking about . . .

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Collins delivers equal parts suspense and philosophy, adventure and romance, in this searing novel set in a future with unsettling parallels to our present.

  • Amazing Book Must Read!!!!!

I absolutely loved the Hunger Games. It all started when 16 year old Katniss Everdeens little sister Prim was chosen for a deathly competition. Katniss volunteered in her sisters place. She and the other district 12 tribute Peeta Mellark must go to the capitol and fight 22 other tributes from all over Panem to the death. Katniss and Peeta try to help each other as much as possible. They have a "Fake" romance for the cameras so they can get sponsors. They go through unimaginable things and the end has unexpected results. This is an amazing book I totally recommend fans of The Maze Runner and Divergent would love. #SpringPicks

A dangerous adventure of survival for Katniss. She has to experience so much and learn who she can trust. The storyline is fantastic, the characters are so well written you feel like you know them. Very detailed descriptions will have you experiencing everything along with Katniss.

  • Must read!!

Definitely a fun read. I love dystopias and strong female protagonists and this book delivers. While Katniss is clearly a strong woman, you see glimpses of her softer side which help you love her even more. Also, the story that forms between Katniss and Peeta keep you coming back throughout the Series. #SpringPicks

  • Simply Incredible

I absolutely LOVE this series. Even though this is a dystopian novel, it feels very realistic and modern. And if you know me, realism is HUGE in my book. Even stories so far-fetched (like Harry Potter) need to feel realistic for me to thoroughly enjoy it. Suzanne is a master at creating the weirdest things but making them feel completely normal. Even the tiny details are things she took into account. The ‘monsters’ Katniss faces during the Hunger Games are incredibly creative. One of the things that make this novel feel so real is the details each district has, even down to the music they sing. Katniss is so relatable, and even though she seems to be the classic dystopian heroine, she stands out as one of my favorites. She is incredibly strong (mentally and emotionally), but she’s not heartless. She is clueless, but she’s not stupid. If all of that wasn’t enough, Suzanne also finds the time to have a romantic subplot. It’s the classic him vs him trope, but it’s handled beautifully in this book. Gale and Peeta both hold places in Katniss’ heart, and it’s a blast to have something to root for while reading the bloodshed and misery. #SpringPicks
